Alvah Cowan Park
The Community working together
2013-2014 Plan

July 2013.  The Settlemier Knot Garden Society was formed on sunny day at Alvah

Cowan Park in Woodburn by Gevin Gregory, Ellen Bandelow, Sharon Corning,

Colin Brown and Patricia Hyatt.  We were

later joined by Bob Bendalow, Kay McEwen and John Purdue.  This summer we worked diligently on the corner with the help of the Parks Department and Ron Palmer.  They put in a retention wall and topsoil. Our flowers were paid for by

a donation from the Woodburn Garden Society.  This was truely a community effort.

It is always hard work in the Park but the results were well worth it.  The day we planted two members of the Garden Club came to give us a hand. The next project

will be the Rose Knot Garden.  We had Catherine Johnson from the Portland Rose

Society evaluate our roses and we have to

replace them all.

The next event will be the Rose Garden on November 9, 2013.  We will be removing the plants with the help

of volunteers from the Woodburn Youth Board.  It is always a great

pleasure to have the youth of the area

come to work with us.  It gives them

a good sense of their importance to

the community and certainly is a great

help to the Knot Garden Society.
